Acronis has acquired DeviceLock for data loss prevention (DLP) software, ChannelE2E reports this morning. The acquisition further converges the cybersecurity, data protection, backup and disaster recovery (BDR) software markets for MSP and MSSP (managed security services provider) partners.
This is M&A deal 287 that MSSP Alert and ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2020. See the complete M&A deal list here.
DeviceLock’s software protects 4 million computers in more than 5,000 organizations worldwide, the company says. Protected platforms include PCs running Microsoft Windows and Apple Macs running macOS, along with virtualized Windows sessions and applications. Acronis says the overall platform addresses safety, accessibility, privacy, authenticity, and security (SAPAS) of all data, applications, and systems.
Acronis now has more than 1,500 employees in 33 locations in 18 countries. The company’s installed base spans more than 5.5 million home users and 500,000 organizations, Acronis says.
Cybersecurity and Data Protection: Converged MSP, MSSP Solutions
Multiple MSP- and MSSP-focused technology companies are converging security, data protection and storage services. Key moves in and around the market, ChannelE2E notes, include:
- Financial Moves: Datto, the MSP-focused technology provider, filed for a potential IPO yesterday, and OwnBackup just raised $50 million from Insight Partners, Salesforce Ventures and Vertex. Also, Insight Partners acquired Veeam at a $5 billion valuation. Plus, keep a close eye on venture-backed startups as Druva, Cohesity and Rubrik.
- Data protection-cybersecurity integration: OpenText continues to more deeply integrate its Carbonite and Webroot products for MSPs in the SMB sector. Similarly, Arcserve and Sophos are working closely together.
- MSP Platforms: ConnectWise, Datto, Kaseya and SolarWinds MSP each offer suites of IT management, data protection and cybersecurity tools for MSPs.
Still, Acronis has been moving quickly on its own R&D coupled with tuck-in acquisitions — including today’s DeviceLock deal.
