Cisco Systems has positioned its endpoint security portfolio for MSSPs seeking advanced malware protection, Internet security and enterprise mobility management (EMM) capabilities. The portfolio includes three cloud-based endpoint security solutions: Cisco AMP for Endpoints, Cisco Umbrella (formerly OpenDNS) and Meraki Systems Manager.

The MSSP engagement effort is part of a broader Cisco security partner strategy, which has gained considerable momentum over the past year or two. Although we don't know any specifics, it's a safe bet Cisco will make additional security moves during a Cisco Partner Connection Week in Nassau starting on April 16. Both Senior VP Chief Wendy Bahr and VP Nirav Sheth are expected to attend the gathering.

A Closer Look at Cisco's Endpoint Security Portfolio

Cisco AMP for Endpoints watches, analyzes and records file activity, regardless of a file's disposition, Cisco indicated. By doing so, the solution enables MSSPs to prevent data breaches and block malware at the point of entry.

Comparatively, Cisco Umbrella provides MSSPs with visibility across an organization's devices, networks, office locations and end users, Cisco said. It also blocks requests to access malicious or unwanted destinations.

Meraki Systems Manager offers over-the-air centralized management, diagnostics and monitoring for an organization's devices, Cisco noted. It unifies management and control of thousands of mobile and desktop devices, tracks device posture and adjusts an organization's security policies as needed.

Cisco's endpoint security portfolio is now available. It requires no hardware or infrastructure and provides MSSPs with security, visibility and control across customer endpoints.

What Are Cisco's Plans for the Managed Security Services Market?

In addition to the launch of its endpoint security portfolio, Cisco recently has taken several steps to extend its reach in the managed security services market.

Cisco and Apple this month released a cyber risk management solution that combines cyber resilience evaluation services from professional services firm Aon and cyber coverage from insurance and asset management provider Allianz. The solution enables organizations to protect themselves against cyber risks associated with ransomware and other malware-related threats.

Meanwhile, Cisco in May announced a security solution designed to detect, block and respond to Internet of Things (IoT) dangers. The solution, IoT Threat Defense, provides network segmentation, remote access and other security capabilities to safeguard IoT devices.

Cisco recorded $11.9 billion in total revenue in the second quarter of fiscal year 2018, up from $11.6 billion one year earlier. With its recent investments, Cisco could simultaneously accelerate its revenue growth and capitalize on the rapidly expanding global managed security services sector.

The global managed security services market could be worth nearly $33.7 billion by 2021, according to market research firm MarketsandMarkets. Also, this sector is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.6 percent between 2016 and 2021.
