Malwarebytes Acquires Online Privacy Company Cyrus

Share

Malwarebytes has purchased Cyrus and plans to integrate the company's technology into its mobile privacy solutions, according to a prepared statement.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and Cyrus' employees will join Malwarebytes as part of the transaction, the companies said.

This is technology M&A deal number 240 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2023.

Malwarebytes, founded in 2008, is based in Santa Clara, California. The company has 866 employees listed on LinkedIn. Malwarebytes' areas of expertise include endpoint protection, privacy and threat prevention solutions.

Cyrus, founded in 2020, is based in San Francisco, California. The company has 37 employees listed on LinkedIn. Cyrus' areas of expertise include cybersecurity and identity theft protection.

What Cyrus Offers

Cyrus' technology emphasizes the kill chain for consumer threats, Malwarebytes noted. The technology accounts for social media and dark web content and a user's online presence. It provides a correlated view of user-specific threats and flags indicators of attack and compromise.

With Cyrus' technology, Malwarebytes can "advise [its] customers on the intersection of privacy and security," Malwarebytes CEO Marcin Kleczynski said. The technology also helps Malwarebytes safeguard its customers' personal data and online privacy, Kleczynski stated.

In addition, Malwarebytes can use Cyrus' technology to deliver a "holistic, mobile-first, experience that provides context to when, why and how users may be at risk," said Mark Beare, general manager of Malwarebytes' consumer business unit. Beare indicated that this technology underscores Malwarebytes' mission to provide world-class cybersecurity and privacy solutions and could help the company further expand its portfolio as well.

Malwarebytes Upgrades Its Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) Capabilities

The Cyrus acquisition comes after Malwarebytes in August 2023 released its EDR Extra Strength solution.

Organizations can use EDR Extra Strength to map cyberattacks to the MITRE ATT&CK framework, isolate threats across their desktops, networks and processes and guard against lateral movement, Malwarebytes said. That way, they can reduce their attack surface and speed up incident response.

Malwarebytes offers products and solutions designed to "rid the world of malware," according to the company. These products and solutions are used by organizations around the world. MSSPs, MSPs and other technology providers can join Malwarebytes' partner program to integrate these products and solutions into their portfolios.
