12. Crypto Scams & Penalties: Twitter is taking measures to prevent cryptocurrency-related accounts from running scams on its platform, the social media company says. Meanwhile, Japan punished seven cryptocurrency exchanges, ordering two of them to suspend business, in an effort to shore up consumer protection after a $530 million theft of digital money from Tokyo-based Coincheck earlier this year, Reuters says.

11. NSA Enemies: An NSA leak apparently reveals the agency's list of enemy hackers, according to a detailed Wired report...

10. FBI and Corporate Hacks: FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday promised to "treat victim companies as victims” and withhold potentially damaging corporate information from other regulatory agencies when data breaches occur, according to Law360.

9. DDoS Kill Switch: First, the good news... Corero Network Security has discovered a Memcached DDoS attack “Kill Switch.” Now, the bad news. Corero says the Memcached exploit can be used to steal or corrupt data. Roughly 95,000 servers worldwide are exposed to the vulnerability, Corero estimates. We'll share more details later today.

8. DDoS Attack Mitigation: Wave Broadband, a gigabit fiber and broadband services company, has launched a DDoS Mitigation service.

Application Security Testing: DXC Technology, a Top 100 MSSP for 2017, has launched Applications Security on Demand, a consumption-based applications security testing service that helps clients identify and remediate vulnerabilities during the development lifecycle. 6. Identity Management: Okta's latest quarterly revenue was $77.8 million, up nearly 60 percent from the corresponding quarter last year. The results beat Wall Street's expectations by about $3.9 million. Although the company sells mostly direct, relations ships with Cyber Ark, KPMG and others will help Okta expand globally, company executives said during yesterday's earnings call.

5. Funding: Bandura Systems, which develops a threat intelligence gateway (TIG), has raised $3.5 million in seed funding. Bandura PoliWall, developed in part with the U.S. Department of Defense, is a Threat Intelligence Gateway platform that blocks known threats before they reach the network firewall.

4. Contract Win: Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has embraced WhiteHat Security, an application security provider. The engagement includes WhiteHat Sentinel Source static application security testing (SAST), and WhiteHat Sentinel Dynamic for continuous vulnerability assessments of VCU’s live websites. The university has more than 31,000 students and more than 2,200 full time teaching and research faculty members from 13 different schools.

3. SMB Security Branding: Frogworks is positioning itself as an enterprise-class IT security solutions provider for SMB customers across Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. The sales pitch from President Alex Bleam includes a "12 step" security methodology that combines multiple pieces of software to protect a business from ransomware attacks.

1. SOC Outsourcing: Trusource Labs, an Austin, Texas-based provider of corporate technical support services with a focus on IoT devices, has selected Arctic Wolf Networks' AWN CyberSOC for turnkey threat detection and response capabilities.
