Here’s the lineup for Monday, February 12, 2018: 17. Momentum: The cybersecurity arm at French defense electronics group Thales has generated 900 million euros ($1.10 billion) in sales in 2017, up from 700 million euros in 2016, according to Reuters. The division is expected to grow roughly 10 percent annually for the next few years. 16. Crypto Hack:  Thousands of websites, including ones run by U.S. and UK government agencies, were infected for several hours on Sunday with code that causes web browsers to secretly mine digital currencies, Reuters says. 15. AWS Encryption: DynamoDB users have a new encryption option from Amazon Web Services, as the cloud leader continues to try and make it difficult to leave your precious data unsecured, GeekWire notes. 14. Talent: The National Retail Federation has hired Christian Beckner, a Washington cybersecurity think tank expert and former U.S. Senate homeland security advisor, to head its cybersecurity program that helps retailers protect sensitive consumer data nationwide. 13. Olympic WiFi Hack?: PyeongChang Olympic organizers are investigating a possible attack on their internet and Wi-Fi systems about 45 minutes before the opening ceremony, The New York Post reports. 12. DDoS Mitigation: Neustar has expanded its DDoS mitigation defense network in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa). Scrubbing centers in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Marseille have been expanded, while new facilities in Stockholm and Tokyo have gone live, the company says. 11. Momentum:

  • Imperva's Q4 revenues hit $91.1 million, up 16 percent from the corresponding quarter the previous year.

Australia: Cybersecurity spending in Australia rose 25 percent in 2017 vs. 2016, according to Accenture. Yes, cyber breaches in the country rose more than 25 percent, the IT consulting giant says... 8. Platform Launch: Kaspersky Lab has launched  a cybersecurity platform that rolls up many of the company's core products. 7. New SOC: Online Business Systems has opened a Security Operations Center (SOC) in  Irving, Texas. Core services include a Risk, Security and Privacy offering. 6. Cloud Privacy: The Supreme Court later this month is expected to rule on an international data privacy case involving Microsoft... The case is particularly important to MSPs and CSPs that manage customer data across borders. 5. Cisco Vulnerability: Cisco has warned partners and customers about a severe vulnerability in the company's security appliances ... 4. Apple-related Leak: Source code was leaked online last week for the bootloader that helps launch Apple's iOS operating system on mobile devices, Top Tech News notes. While the bootloader link on the code repository GitHub was quickly taken down following a copyright request from Apple, copies are continuing to float around the Internet, the coverage says. The leak involves proprietary information that Apple works hard to keep secret... 3. Firewall Evolution: Fortinet's CEO is educating the world about the evolution of network firewalls. His vision statement arrives as rival Check Point Software evangelizes fifth-generation security offerings. 2. Partner Push: CrowdStrike has unveiled a "massive expansion of its partner ecosystem, operations, and footprint following record partner growth and sales in 2017, the company says. Much of the momentum involves Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) and across the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region. 1. Trustwave Discovers Netgear Vulnerabilities: Trustwave's SpiderLabs division has discovered and documented multiple vulnerabilities in Netgear routers. Details are here. Trustwave was a Top 100 MSSP for 2017.
