MSSP News Alert: Tuesday 2 May 2017

Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global MSSP (managed security services provider) ecosystem.

Here’s the lineup for Tuesday, May 2, 2017:

6. Endpoint Security: Absolute Security has launched an endpoint security dashboard that has a Fitbit-like dashboard. It provides "rich contextual insights to measure, monitor and improve endpoint health and compliance in real time, even when a device is off the corporate network," Absolute Security claims. Sounds simple. But is it effective? Hmmm...

5. British Hacker?: A hacker has taken control of 150 British government websites and is threatening to “deface” them, in a stark warning to British officials, The Sun reported. The hacktivist said that he hacked the websites – including several addresses – to show how vulnerable they are, the report said.

4. Federal Cybersecurity Budget: The budget deal hammered out by congressional leaders late Sunday boosts funding for cybersecurity and privacy initiatives at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Trade Commission, including the allocation of nearly $1 billion to help fortify public sector networks against cyberattacks, according to Law360.

2. Security Partner Program: IDdriven, which specializes in Identity and Access Management (IAM) security solutions, has launched a channel program. Key partners include Ingram Micro, Insight, CDW and SHI.

1. Countdown to Launch: Yup. We wrote this blog on Tuesday, May 2 — quite a bit before MSSP Alert’s anticipated launch day in mid-2017.
