Each morning MSSP Alert offers readers a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the MSSP (managed security services provider) ecosystem.
Here’s the lineup for Tuesday, April 11, 2017:
5. Bad PR: Insurance giant Anthem has effectively scared off possible victims of a 2015 data breach by asking to examine their personal computers for evidence that their own shoddy security was to blame for their information falling into the hands of criminals, Network World asserts. Anthem is the second largest health insurer in the United States, running plans that include Anthem Blue Cross. The 2015 hack was one of the largest breaches in U.S. history.
4. Small Business Cybersecurity: Keep a close eye on the Main Street Cybersecurity Act, which would require NIST to provide a voluntary set of security guidelines for small businesses.
3. Talent – Security: Webroot has hired Gary Hayslip as chief information security officer (CISO). Hayslip will guide the company’s information security program and contribute to product strategy. Hayslip has served in several major IT security organizations — including the National InfraGard Program.
2. M&A - Physical Security: Priority One Security has acquired Blue Ridge Security Solutions, according to GSA Business Report. The two companies specialize in managed security services and access controls for homes and businesses.
1. Countdown to Launch: Yup. We wrote this blog on Tuesday, April 11 — quite a bit before MSSP Alert’s anticipated launch day in mid-2017.
