Check Point Software Acquires Developer Security Startup Spectral

Check Point Software Technologies has acquired Spectral, an Israeli startup that offers developer-centric security tools for cloud and traditional applications. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Check Point Acquires Spectral: Security Use Cases

Spectral’s security tools, according to Check Point, support such use cases as:

  • Infrastructure as Code Scanning
  • Code Tampering Prevention
  • Hardcoded Secrets Detection
  • Source Controls and CI/CD Security
  • Source Code Leakage Detection

Among Spectral's recent developments: The company in August 2021 released DeepConfig, a detection technology that can" identify misconfigurations at all layers of software to prevent exploits of security gaps and data breaches."

Spectral's technology will tuck into Check Point CloudGuard, providing customers and partners with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scanning and hardcoded secrets detection, the buyer indicated.

Spectral has 34 employees listed on LinkedIn. The startup's installed base spans developers from roughly 300 organizations worldwide, the buyer said.

Ahead of the company sale to Check Point, Spectral raised $6.2 million in early stage funding in February 2021, according to Tech Crunch.

Next up, Check Point is expected to announce Q4 2021 financial results on February 3, 2022. We'll be listening for potential clues about the company's partner program progress with MSPs and MSSPs.
