A recent survey of nearly 600 cybersecurity decision-makers and practitioners reveals that AI is significantly disrupting enterprise cybersecurity environments. According to reporting by Channeldive, more than four out of five respondents reported experiencing a confirmed or suspected AI-assisted attack in the past year, highlighting the growing threat landscape.
The IT management provider N-able's survey found that organizations are divided on the operational impact of AI in security, with just over half finding it makes operations more manageable and nearly half reporting increased complexity. Approximately 90% of respondents admitted to making exceptions to security policies to accommodate AI tools. Attackers are leveraging AI to accelerate and scale their operations, while defense teams grapple with a surge in automated alerts, with over 86% of respondents reporting an increase in alert volumes.
More than half of those surveyed experienced disruptions to incident response due to frequent or duplicate alerts. A lack of context in AI-generated alerts is a significant pain point, with nearly half of respondents reporting insufficient context. This complexity, coupled with staffing shortages and budget constraints, leaves organizations, particularly small and midsize businesses, vulnerable to sophisticated attacks like ransomware combined with data theft.
