Delinea Adds Identity Threat Expertise with Authomize Acquisition

Share

Privileged access management (PAM) provider Delinea has acquired Authomize, a company focused on the detection and elimination of identity-based threat across the cloud.

This is M&A deal No. 13 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2024. See more than 2,000 technology M&A deals for 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020 listed here. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

San Francisco-based Delinea has approximately 1,000 employees, according to LinkedIn, while Authomize, headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, has 57 employees.

Cloud Identity Security Meets PAM

The acquisition marries the identity discovery and visibility capabilities of Authomize with Delinea's software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions for PAM, the companies said in a prepared statement. By adding Authomize, Delinea can extend its platform's reach for comprehensive privileged controls in the cloud while offering a strong defense against identity-based attacks.

Accordingly, Delinea will deliver cloud infrastructure entitlement management (CIEM) and identity threat detection and response (ITDR) capabilities through its cloud-native platform. The acquisition also establishes a Delinea research and development center at the Authomize HQ in Israel.

Why the Merger Makes Sense

Delinea cites Osterman research indicating that 80% of enterprises now use multiple clouds. Meanwhile, 76% of them lack complete visibility into access policies and applications across multiple clouds, increasing the threat landscape. In that respect, Delinea's acquisition makes sense. As CEO Art Gilliland explained:

"The combination of Delinea and Authomize gives customers the power to detect and mitigate active identity threats across SaaS applications, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure. The extension of human and non-human identities beyond the traditional firewall requires continuous visibility into all SaaS applications, their connections to each other, and across hybrid environments.”

With its enhanced capabilities, the Delinea platform will identify and address issues such as stale accounts, over-privileged identities and privilege escalation paths. This will significantly bolster cloud security by proactively detecting and mitigating threats while maintaining operational continuity, according to Delinea

Describing the significance of the enhancements, Delinea Chief Product Officer Phil Calvin said:

"This marks an exciting milestone in our mission to greatly enhance identification and mitigation of identity-based risks. Our joint technologies will harness continuous monitoring and deliver adaptive and broad privilege controls, all within a consolidated cloud-native platform, ensuring awareness and response to protect identities and data."

Delinea Issues Cyber Insurance Guide, Password Research

In July 2023, Delinea published an eBook to help organizations navigate the evolving requirements for obtaining cyber insurance policies.

Coinciding with Black Hat USA in August 2023, Delinea released fresh password-focused research. Of some 100 attendees surveyed, 54% called passwordless authentication a “viable concept.” Nearly 80% said passwords are evolving or becoming obsolete. Read MSSP Alert’s coverage here.
