Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global MSSP (managed security services provider) ecosystem.
Here’s the lineup for Thursday, May 11, 2017:
8. Symantec Stumbles (Sort Of): Symantec shares fell 7 percent amid revenue weakness in the security company's latest quarter. But CEO Greg Clark says investors are tracking the wrong KPI. Near-term revenues are a bit software because customers are shifting from lump-sum contracts toward cloud-oriented recurring revenue deals. So while near-term revenues are a bit software than expected, Symantec's long-term deferred revenue is getting stronger and stronger, Clark insists.
7. Identity and Access Management: Ping Identity has hired Bart Hammond as VP of customer success. Hammond joins Ping on the heels of a profitable first quarter for 2017 and more than 50 percent growth in subscription revenue compared to Q1 2016, the company said. Ping specializes in identity defined security. Related: Cloud Identity Summit, hosted by Ping Identity, is set for June.
6. Cybersecurity Momentum: Vertek, a Vermont-based solutions and security provider, is gaining momentum as a strategic AlienVault Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) partner. the two companies assert -- though they didn't share specific business or financial metrics. Vertek has developed a roprietary Cloud Collector Platform for managed threat intelligence. Stay tuned for more details later this month (hmmm...)
5. Security Summit: The Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference (GISEC 2017) is set for next week in Dubai. Carbon Black, among others, is expected to have a major presence at the conference. Check the MSSP Alert Cybersecurity Conference Calendar for a growing list of related events.
4. Cybersecurity - EMEA: The number of active AppRiver EMEA channel partners grew 128 percent in the region in 2016 vs. 2015, the cloud cybersecurity and productivity specialist said. AppRiver offers a range of tools that help MSPs to manage and safeguard Office 365, among other offerings.
3. Firewalls on Azure, AWS: Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls are increasingly available on Microsoft Azure. The strategy is somewhat akin to moves by Barracuda Networks, which has empowered partners to deploy virtualized firewalls across Azure and Amazon Web Services.
2. Security Operations Center: BSE (formerly known as the Bombay Stock Exchange Ltd), the oldest stock exchange in Asia, has selected IBM Security to design, build and manage a cyber Security Operations Center to safeguard the company's assets and protect stakeholder data, the companies announced. Under the five-year managed security services agreement, the center will enable around-the-clock security event monitoring, event handling, security analysis, incident management and response along with synchronized management of devices, networks and applications, IBM said.
1. Countdown to Launch: Yup. We wrote this blog on Thursday, May 11 — quite a bit before MSSP Alert’s anticipated launch day in a few weeks.
