10. Best Buy Dumps Kaspersky Lab: Best Buy has stopped selling Kaspersky Lab's security software. The move comes as the U.S. government investigates alleged Kaspersky ties to Russia's government. Kaspersky Lab has denied the claims.
9. Attractive Security?: Core Security has launched Core Access Assurance Suite (AAS) 9.0, which delivers "the industry's most Beautiful Identity Experience." The identity and access management (IAM) platform's "consumer grade experience provides an intuitive, simple-to-use interface for managing user identities and access control," the company claims...
8. Mobile Security: Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile and Sprint have teamed up to launched the Mobile Authentication Taskforce. Their unified goal: Launching new approaches to secure authentication sometime in 2018 or so...
7. Equifax Compensation: Equifax Security Chief John Kelley earned $2.8 million in 2016, according to CNBC. The company is under fire for multiple security breaches in recent years -- including a massive breach discovered in July that likely involved more than 140 million customer identities.
6. Shadow Brokers Code Dumps: The Shadow Brokers has promised two code dumps per month -- including the release of NSA exploit UNITEDRAKE -- which remotely targets Windows machines to subscribers. The hacker service had previously promised at least one code dump per month...
5. Recent Phishing Attacks: TrustWave, the major MSSP, shared new details about spoofed phishing email messages appearing to come from Xero -- a New Zealand-based software company that develops cloud-based accounting software for small and medium-sized businesses....
4. Security Operations Centers (SOCs): Onesecure Asia Pte, an MSSP in Asia, has embraced Trusted Metrics' security operations center (SOC) solutions. The SOC functions as Onesecure Asia’s threat defense and mitigation facility, catering to SMEs, empowering them to go beyond the traditional monitoring of perimeter security, the companies say.
3. Talent: Delta Risk LLC, a global provider of cyber security and risk management services, has named John E. Hawley as VP of global strategy. Hawley will oversee product management and strategy for the company, and lead the development of new managed security and consulting services. He previously led portfolio strategy for CA Technologies' Worldwide Security business.
2. Hurricane Irma: It ain't over. Although the storm has weakened, there are 5.5 million people without power in Florida as of Monday morning. A major storm surge this morning flooded Jacksonville, Fla. Irma is expected to weaken to a tropical storm over the next 24 hours as it heads toward Georgia, Alabama and surrounding states.
