Managed Security Services Provider Morning News: 24 August 2017

Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider, SOC (security operations center) and IT outsourcing ecosystem.

Here’s the lineup for Thursday, August 24, 2017

8. CISO: Amtrak has named William Heinrich as its next chief information security officer. He starts Sept. 5 and reports to Chief Information Officer Ghada Ijam, The Wall Street Journal reported.

7. White House vs. Kaspersky Lab: White House cybersecurity coordinator Rob Joyce said he would advise his family against using Kaspersky Lab antivirus software, products federal agencies and Congress have also railed against in recent months for suspected ties to Russia's intelligence agencies, The Hill reported. Joyce's statements originally appeared on CBS News. Kaspersky has repeatedly denied any connection to the Russian government.

6. President Trump & Cybersecurity: Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is again hitting President Trump over his lack of a cybersecurity policy, calling the administration's leadership on the issue "weak" as the president continues attacks on the senator in the wake of his decisive vote on the failed GOP healthcare bill, according to The Hill. McCain's comments surfaced Wednesday during a cybersecurity conference in Arizona.

5. Cloud Service Providers & Customer Privacy: DreamHost sparred with federal prosecutors Wednesday over how much information it has to turn over about people who used a website to plan protests during President Donald Trump’s inauguration, saying a narrowed government request still infringed on free-speech rights, The Wall Street Journal reported.

4. GoDaddy TrustSite: GoDaddy Inc. has launched TrustedSite, a new website security certification that allows small businesses to better protect their online customers. Moreover, all GoDaddy SSL Plans have integrated McAfee SECURE to scan and certify websites for free.

3. Dell EMC and SonicWall: Dell EMC has confirmed plans to OEM and resell SonicWall's next-generation cyber security firewall solutions in the United States and Canada. The news isn't all that surprising, Dell sold SonicWall in 2016. At the time, SonicWall made it clear that Dell would remain a channel partner for the firewall security vendor.

2. Identity Magement and BlockchainShoCard, a blockchain-based identity management system (IMS), has raised $4 million in funding, bringing total funding to $5.5 million, for the rollout of its enterprise solution, ShoBadge, the company says.
