Microsoft has opened pre-orders for its new Copilot+ PCs, with shipping scheduled to begin October 16. The company is positioning these devices as the operating system for "hybrid intelligence," integrating local data, local models, and cloud resources to enhance user experiences, as reported by CRN.
Microsoft's new Copilot+ PCs, powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark, are set to ship starting October 16, with the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box available in November. These devices aim to provide enhanced AI capabilities, with Microsoft executive vice president Pavan Davuluri stating they are building "the OS for agents." The new PCs feature advanced AI processing, claiming significant speed improvements over competitors in tasks like AI image and video generation.
Microsoft is also introducing "hybrid intelligence" features that leverage both local and cloud-based AI models to improve performance and reduce costs. These features will allow Copilot to organize files, troubleshoot issues, and perform other tasks locally. Additionally, Microsoft is enhancing Windows security with Execution Containers (MXCs) to provide a more secure platform for AI agents, offering granular control over agent access to files and networks. The company is also upgrading Windows Search with improved performance and integration with Copilot.
