ESET emphasizes human oversight for AI in cybersecurity

ESET, a cybersecurity vendor, is advocating for a balanced approach to artificial intelligence in security, emphasizing the continued importance of human oversight despite the efficiency gains offered by AI tools, as disclosed by CRN. Ryan Grant, ESET's country manager for the U.S. and Canada, highlighted this strategy in a recent interview.

ESET's strategy involves embracing AI tools for security operations while treating AI agents with the same level of scrutiny as human employees. This approach includes 24/7 monitoring by humans, ensuring that critical decisions are not solely automated. The company's new Protect portfolio aims to bring enterprise-grade security, including continuous monitoring and vulnerability management, to small and midsize businesses (SMBs). Grant noted that ESET has been investing in AI since 1997, integrating advanced heuristics and large language models into its platform.

The vendor is focusing on AI browser and conversation security to protect against sensitive data uploads and AI agent security to monitor agent behavior and enforce guardrails. This is particularly relevant as AI expands the attack surface, with attackers and defenders alike becoming more creative. ESET's approach aims to simplify complex security challenges for partners and clients, offering an all-inclusive, affordable solution that doesn't rely on tokenization for AI features, thereby providing a more accessible, enterprise-grade security posture for SMBs.
