Morocco enhances cybersecurity with focus on proactive defense and AI

Morocco's cybersecurity strategy is prioritizing proactive threat detection, critical infrastructure protection, and artificial intelligence as the nation fortifies its defenses against evolving cyber threats. Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi, said securing information systems has become essential as digital transformation accelerates. Cybersecurity must be integrated into institutional governance, emphasizing preparedness, early threat detection, and coordinated responses to cyber incidents, as first reported by The Cyber Express.

Morocco's strategy is built on five pillars: a clear legal and regulatory framework, developing human, technical, and financial capabilities, fostering public awareness and a cybersecurity culture, enhancing monitoring and response capabilities, and promoting regional and international cooperation. The nation is also focusing on training specialized cybersecurity professionals, supporting national cybersecurity companies, strengthening critical infrastructure protection, and addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.

AI is recognized as a dual-use technology that can aid both attackers and defenders. This comprehensive approach aims to prepare Morocco for current threats and future risks as technologies and attack methods evolve. The country also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation, particularly with African and Arab partners, to build a secure digital environment through collective efforts.
