VMware, Carbon Black Partner to Launch Joint Cloud Security Solution

VMware and Carbon Black are working together to deliver a cloud security solution. With the VMware-Carbon Black solution, organizations will be able to quickly detect and mitigate threats to applications inside the data center, according to a prepared statement.

The joint solution blends VMware AppDefense endpoint security capabilities with Carbon Black's Predictive Security Cloud (PSC), which applies big data analytics across all endpoints to help end users identify and address cyberattacks. It also uses streaming prevention capabilities to track malicious behavior on a machine, Carbon Black noted, and protects users against malware- and non-malware-based attacks.

The VMware-Carbon Black relationship could help both companies to fortify their MSP and MSSP ecosystems. Generally speaking, Carbon Black has strong relationships with MSSPs. In stark contrast, VMware has spent recent years attempting to polish and align its partner program to better serve MSPs -- including those focused on security.

VMware and Carbon Black Cyber Security Solutions

Organizations can use the joint solution to reduce their attack surface, Carbon Black stated. Meanwhile, security teams can leverage the solution to automate threat detection and remediation.

The new joint solution will be generally available from Carbon Black in VMware's fourth quarter of fiscal year 2018, which concludes February 3. Furthermore, VMware and Carbon Black plan to launch a 15-city tour to promote the solution.

AppDefense is a data center endpoint security product that safeguards applications running in virtualized environments, VMware pointed out. It analyzes app performance and uses contextual intelligence to identify and mitigate legitimate threats.

PSC is an endpoint security platform that collects and analyzes endpoint data, Carbon Black noted. By doing so, PSC allows users to make accurate predictions about and protect against future and unknown cyberattacks.

Carbon Black Eyes Channel Growth

More than 3,000 security professionals use Carbon Black solutions to safeguard more than 9 million endpoints globally, according to the company. In addition, Carbon Black continues to explore ways to engage channel partners, which is reflected in some of the company's recent moves.

Carbon Black last month appointed former Microsoft executive Victor Gureghian Baez as its vice president of worldwide channels. Gureghian Baez, who possesses more than two decades of international channel experience, will help Carbon Black accelerate its channel growth and expand its global footprint, the company said.

In October, Carbon Black integrated its CB Response endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution with the IBM Resilient Response Orchestration Platform. The integration enables security operations centers (SOCs) to automate remediation tasks and orchestrate critical incident response activities, Carbon Black stated.
