SIEM Mid-Market Analysis: AlienVault, SolarWinds Among Top Competitors

AlienVault, SolarWinds and Alert Logic rank among the top competitors in the global mid-sized security information and event management (SIEM) market, according to research from business consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. In addition, the top three competitors hold a 52 percent share of this market.

Other notable findings from Frost & Sullivan's "SIEM Mid-Market Analysis" included:

  • The average annual cost for SIEM technology for mid-sized businesses can reach $40,000.
  • The deployment of mid-market and cloud-based SIEM tools exceeds all other SIEM product deployments.
  • The European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is driving SIEM product deployments in Europe.

Today's mid-market businesses demand SIEM products that feature intuitive user interfaces, contextual analysis tools and multiple platform integrations, Frost & Sullivan indicated. As such, vendors are tasked with developing and deploying products that offer these capabilities, as well as provide mid-market businesses with visibility over cloud, mobile, on-premise and virtual environments.

What Products Are Available?

AlienVault and SolarWinds offer "all-in-one" SIEM appliances for mid-market businesses, Frost & Sullivan noted. By doing so, AlienVault and SolarWinds have gained an initial advantage over their mid-market rivals.

Conversely, IBM, HPE ArcSight and McAfee have "closed the gap" in all-in-one platforms and cloud-based tools, according to Frost & Sullivan. These vendors empower mid-market businesses with the ability to use multiple cyber defense technologies on the same platform.

Alert Logic, Arctic Wolf, EventTracker and LogRhythm also rank among the top mid-market competitors, Frost & Sullivan pointed out. These companies continue to explore product upgrades and look poised to capitalize on the rising demand for technologies in the foreseeable future.

What Does the Future Hold for the Global Market?

As organizations search for ways to stop data breaches and avoid compliance violations, the demand for SIEM products is expected to increase among mid-market companies, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprises globally.

The global SIEM sector is projected to be worth more than $4.5 billion by 2019, according to market research firm MarketsandMarkets. Also, rising demand for products in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region could accelerate this sector's growth.
