Huntress, a managed detection and response (MDR) platform provider, has purchased security awareness training company Curricula for $22 million.

This is technology M&A deal number 649 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.

Huntress, founded in 2015, is based in Ellicott City, Maryland. The company has 196 employees listed on LinkedIn. Huntress' areas of expertise include managed services, cyber breach detection, malware analysis and incident response.

Curricula, founded in 2015, is based in Atlanta, Georgia. The company has 18 employees listed on LinkedIn. Curricula areas of expertise include cybersecurity awareness training, phishing training and simulation and online training.

Huntress Bolsters its Managed Security Platform

Curricula brings interactive eLearning security awareness training to Huntress' Managed Security Platform, the companies said. It allows organizations to use the Managed Security Platform to teach employees about cyberattacks and how to guard against them.

Curricula provides Huntress with a gamified phishing simulator, story-based training episodes and other security awareness training features, the companies said. In doing so, Curricula and Huntress together can help organizations establish and maintain security awareness programs.

Cengage Group, Immersive Labs Acquire Cybersecurity Training Companies

Huntress' Curricula acquisition comes after global education technology company Cengage Group in 2022 purchased cybersecurity education and training provider Infosec for $190.8 million. Infosec has been integrated into Cengage's Workforce Skills business, which provides online training and education to college and university students.

In addition, cybersecurity training platform provider Immersive Labs in November 2021 bought cyber labs company Snap Labs. Together, the companies offer cyber team exercises tailored to customer environments.

The global security awareness training market is projected to be worth approximately $10 billion by 2027, according to industry researcher Cybersecurity Ventures. Along with more companies exploring security training awareness mergers and acquisitions, MSSPs may increasingly look to use security training to educate their employees or customers about cyber risks.
