Donnelley Financial Solutions Acquires Data Security Company Guardum

Donnelley Financial Solutions (DFIN), a risk and compliance company, has purchased data security and privacy software provider Guardum for an undisclosed sum.

This is technology M&A deal number 783 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2021.

To date, DFIN has integrated Guardum's privacy tools into its Venue virtual data room, the buyer said. The result: organizations can use Venue and Guardum's privacy tools to secure sensitive data during transactions and comply with global deal regulations.

Furthermore, Guardum will continue to develop software solutions to help organizations reduce their compliance spending and mitigate risk, co-founder Rob Westmacott stated. It also will explore ways to ensure that organizations can use its solutions to identify and protect their data.

What Is Guardum?

Guardum provides data security software that uses pattern matching technology to automate the discovery and redaction of personally identifiable information (PII), the company said. The software can be used across various departments and job functions to help users locate, secure and control data.

Organizations can use Guardum's software to automatically scan millions of pages in minutes, the company noted. They can locate sensitive information on premises or in the cloud and apply a redaction mask or anonymization to this data.

In addition, Guardum's software lets organizations redact third-party information relating to data subjects for governance, risk and compliance (GRC), the company indicated. The software also ensures organizations can secure data in accordance with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), European Union General Data Protection Regulations ((EU) 2016/679 GDPR) and other data security mandates.

What Does the Guardum Acquisition Mean for DFIN?

DFIN will integrate Guardum's data security technology into its portfolio, President of Global Capital Markets Craig Clay said. It will create a platform that provides privacy intelligence and reduces the risk of exposing sensitive data to cybercriminals.

Meanwhile, DFIN offers a partner program for technology providers and resellers. DFIN may allow its partners to leverage Guardum's technology as part of this program.
