Opswat, a critical infrastructure protection (CIP) cybersecurity solutions provider, has purchased malware analysis company FileScan.IO for an undisclosed sum.

FileScan founder and CEO Jan Miller also has joined Opswat as its director of engineering of malware analysis solutions.

This is technology M&A deal number 927 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.

Opswat, founded in 2002, is based in Tampa, Florida. The company has 634 employees listed on LinkedIn. Opswat's areas of expertise include computer and network security.

FileScan is based in Hamburg, Germany, according to Crunchbase. It is unknown how many employees the company has on staff, and the business does not have a LinkedIn listing. FileScan's areas of expertise include file assessments, threat intelligence and indicator of compromise (IOCs) extraction.

What the FileScan Acquisition Means for Opswat

Opswat will combine its Opswat Sandbox solution with the FileScan platform "to deliver an even faster, scalable and more cost-effective solution," the company stated. It will use FileScan's technology to deliver a malware analysis platform that meets the needs of organizations, cybersecurity researchers and the academic and government community.

In addition, Opswat remains committed to managing and growing the FileScan's community of more than 42,000 active monthly users, the company indicated. Opswat also will continue to provide organizations, cybersecurity researchers and the academic and government community with access to FileScan's free malware analysis service.

Opswat Bolsters Its Leadership Team

Along with acquiring FileScan, Opswat in September 2022 named Stephen Gorham as its chief operating officer and Tomer Zuker as its chief marketing officer.

Gorham will help Opswat drive its next phase of growth, CEO Benny Czarny said. He previously served as Opswat's CIO and head of global operations to the COO.

Zuker has more than two decades of strategic marketing experience and will drive Opswat's global marketing and go-to-market strategy, the company stated. He also is expected to help Opswat scale its portfolio of products and presence in the global CIP market.

Opswat provides critical infrastructure cybersecurity solutions to global organizations. It offers a channel partner program that lets MSSPs, value-added resellers (VARs) and systems integrators incorporate CIP capabilities into their security portfolios.
