Nuspire, a Top 100 MSSP, is acquiring GBprotect of Denver, Colorado, the two managed security services providers (MSSPs) confirmed today. Financial terms were not disclosed.

It's the latest in a growing list of mergers and acquisitions across the MSSP landscape, where companies are combining forces to overcome growing cyber threats, shifting customer demands and talent shortages.

Nuspire of Commerce, Michigan, expanded beyond traditional MSSP services in January 2019 by launching a managed detection and response (MDR) solution that includes endpoint detection and response (EDR), network detection and response (NDR) and device threat detection and response (XDR) services.

GBprotect started as a security event management (SEM) provider in 2002, and then evolved into a full-fledged boutique MSSP that offers  security operations, managed compliance, and strategic consulting services.

GBprotect and its SOC integration will grow Nuspire’s response (threat intelligence and SOC) team, supporting managed service delivery across its customers’ gateway, network and endpoint ecosystems, the two companies said today.

MSSP Merger: Nuspire Acquires GBprotect - Executive Perspectives

In a prepared statement, Nuspire CEO Saylor Frase said:

“Traditional security tools are scaling to match today’s evolving threat landscape. However, tools alone simply can’t combat the complex threats enterprise and mid-sized businesses face. Advanced threat response requires a combination of technology, human analysis and threat intelligence. This merger reinforces our commitment to a security approach that scales with our customers’ needs, providing unmatched Security Operations Center (SOC) service delivery and around-the-clock threat monitoring.”

Added GBprotect CEO Mel Holstrom:

“This merger is an exciting opportunity for our employees and customers. Our collective customer base expects best-in-class technology and security services, which we look forward to taking to the next level.”

MSSP Mergers and Acquisitions

M&A activity among MSSPs has accelerated amid the growing cyber threat landscape, the continuing talent shortage and the need for companies to invest more in automated cyber systems.
