Splunk has purchased TwinWave Security, a cybersecurity automation startup, for an undisclosed sum.

This is technology M&A deal number 946 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.

Splunk, founded in 2003, is based in San Francisco, California. The company has 8,638 employees listed on LinkedIn. Splunk's areas of expertise include infrastructure security, enterprise security and security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR).

TwinWave, founded in 2019, is based in San Francisco, California. The company has five employees listed on LinkedIn. TwinWave's areas of expertise include security automation, threat analysis and incident response.

Splunk Builds Security Capabilities, Leadership Team

TwinWave's products and services expand Splunk's security analytics and automation capabilities, the companies said. Splunk customers can use TwinWave's products and services to detect, analyze and respond to security threats. As such, they can speed up threat detection and analysis.

In addition, TwinWave extends Splunk's security leadership team, the companies noted. TwinWave CEO and co-founder Mike Horn is becoming Splunk's senior vice president and general of security. Along with Horn, TwinWave co-founders Bryan Burns and Will Metcalf and other senior technology and product leaders will join Splunk's security product and engineering teams.

Splunk Hires CISO, Announces Partner Program Enhancements

The TwinWave acquisition comes after Splunk in September 2022 appointed former Zoom and Salesforce executive Jason Lee as its CISO. Lee oversees Splunk's global security and is responsible for protecting its employees and customers against cyber threats, the company stated.

Previously, Splunk in July 2022 unveiled Partnerverse program enhancements during the Global Partner Summit (GPS) at its .conf22 user conference.

These enhancements included:

  • Access to the Splunk Cloud Sandbox
  • Funded Partner Training benefit to help partners build solution competencies and drive enablement
  • New online Solutions Catalog where partners can showcase their expertise and Splunk-based offerings and services

Partnerverse allows MSSPs and MSPs to integrate Splunk's security and observability products into their portfolios. To date, more than 2,400 partners have joined the program.
