Barracuda Launches Entra ID Backup Premium to Strengthen Microsoft Identity Data Recovery

Barracuda has introduced Entra ID Backup Premium, a SaaS-based solution designed to help organizations recover Microsoft Entra ID data beyond the platform’s default 30-day retention window. The launch adds a critical layer to identity protection, enabling fast restoration of users, groups, roles, app registrations, policies, and more.

Where many tools treat identity backup as a feature within broader data protection suites, Barracuda has gone deeper. The new offering is integrated directly into the BarracudaONE platform, allowing for continuous visibility into backup health and seamless connection with existing detection and response tools.

The solution gives organizations and managed service providers a direct way to recover critical identity components like users, groups, roles, audit logs, and app registrations. It’s cloud-native, quick to deploy, and tightly integrated with the broader BarracudaONE platform, making identity protection less reactive and more manageable.

Designed to be fast, integrated, and reliable

Barracuda is aiming to remove the friction from identity data backup. “Barracuda is known for being easy to buy, deploy, and use,” said Stefan van der Wal, Product Marketing Manager, Data Protection at Barracuda to MSSP Alert. “Entra ID Backup Premium can be set up in a matter of minutes. Because it seamlessly integrates with Barracuda’s other solution offerings, organizations can back up and recover data effortlessly while actively detecting and responding to cyberattacks with Barracuda Managed XDR.”

The integration with BarracudaONE means teams can monitor backup health, view storage insights, and get alerts on misconfigurations without juggling multiple interfaces. That kind of visibility becomes even more important when identity roles and access policies are changing daily.

Built for change, ready to restore

Identity data isn’t static. User access, app tokens, and device permissions are constantly shifting, making backup integrity harder to maintain. “Aside from the standard best practices of verifying data after it has been ingested for backup, Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup allows for long-term retention and does not discard any data,” van der Wal said. “If the configuration is not what the user or the MSP wants, or if it does not work for them, restoring the data back to its original, working form is just a matter of a few clicks.”

For teams that want to go beyond backup, Entra ID Backup Premium pairs well with Barracuda’s detection tools, offering optional monitoring for suspicious identity changes via Managed XDR.

Scalable for MSSPs, practical for everyone

Barracuda designed the solution with multitenant environments in mind. Managed security providers can roll it out across clients with different configurations and compliance needs, without adding complexity. “MSPs and MSSPs can leverage BarracudaONE… to get centralized visibility into all their customers’ cybersecurity postures,” van der Wal said.

The centralized dashboard lets partners audit configurations, respond to alerts, and report on backup status across tenants, all from a single interface. “The multitenancy of Entra ID Backup Premium not only allows (MSSPs) to protect customers with multiple tenants but also enables them to monitor and manage backups at a glance,” van der Wal added.

With identity now a prime target, having reliable recovery isn’t optional. It’s foundational. By baking identity protection into the larger BarracudaONE ecosystem, Barracuda gives organizations more than just a backup tool, it delivers a connected security layer that spans email, data, apps, and access. Entra ID Backup Premium is now available globally through Barracuda’s partner network and can be purchased standalone or as part of a broader subscription. It’s a focused solution for a growing risk, and one that finally brings Microsoft Entra ID data recovery into clearer view.
