Cybersecurity Acquisition: CDW Buys Focal Point Data Risk


CDW has acquired Focal Point Data Risk, a company that specializes in cybersecurity risk management program development and implementation. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Focal Point expands CDW's ability to support its customers across the technology lifecycle, according to a prepared statement. It also provides CDW with capabilities in cloud security, development, security and operations (DevSecOps) and other cybersecurity domains.

Focal Point's team will join CDW as part of this acquisition. The seller has 233 employees listed on LinkedIn.

The CDW cybersecurity team, meanwhile, offers advisory services across IT, network and cloud security -- including a focus on emerging technologies. The, the technology reseller and distributor has not said much about an overall MSSP (managed security services provider) strategy.

Focal Point, based in Tampa, Florida, helps organizations develop programs to address cyber threats, data privacy and security challenges, compliance mandates and system implementation initiatives, the company noted. It offers a variety of risk management program solutions, including:

Also, Focal Point provides several risk management program services, including:

Focal Point delivers its risk management solutions and services to global organizations in financial services, government, healthcare and other industries.

What Does the Focal Point Acquisition Mean for CDW?

With the Focal Point acquisition, CDW adds security consulting, customer workforce skills development and professional services capabilities to its services portfolio, CEO Christine Leahy stated. The acquisition enhances CDW's ability to address cyber risks and cyber workforce shortages and help its customers keep pace with evolving data protection laws.

Furthermore, Focal Point enables CDW to deliver identity management and data protection services across the technology lifecycle, said Andy Eccles, CDW's SVP of integrated technology solutions. It empowers CDW to protect its customers against cyberattacks today and in the future.
