Rubrik has reached an agreement to acquire Laminar and plans to deliver cyber recovery and posture capabilities across cloud, enterprise and SaaS environments.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Rubrik announced the news at the Black Hat USA conference, which is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada and runs through August 10.

This is technology M&A deal number 227 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2023.

Rubrik, founded in 2014, is based in Palo Alto, California. The company has 3,363 employees listed on LinkedIn. Rubrik's areas of expertise include data observability, resilience and remediation.

Laminar, founded in 2020, is based in New York, New York. The company has 101 employees listed on LinkedIn. Laminar specializes in data security posture management (DSPM).

Rubrik Bolsters Cloud and Data Security Capabilities

Rubrik and Laminar will jointly develop a unified cyber resilience solution, the companies indicated. This solution will provide organizations with insights into where their data lives, who has access to it and how it is being used. Organizations can use these insights to find ways to stop cyberattacks before they happen.

In addition, Rubrik and Laminar will allow organizations to use artificial intelligence to prepare for sophisticated cyber threats, the companies said. They also will help organizations integrate cloud and data protection capabilities into their security operations.

Rubrik intends to utilize the Laminar team to create a new research and development center in Tel Aviv, Israel, the company stated.

Rubrik Announces Microsoft Integrations

The Laminar acquisition comes after Rubrik in July 2023 unveiled a Microsoft 365 Backup integration that will be released in the coming months. The integration will provide organizations with Microsoft 365 restores and recovery across Azure Active Directory, Rubrik stated. It also will allow organizations to automate their protection across Microsoft 365 and other SaaS, hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Previously, Rubrik in June 2023 incorporated its Security Cloud product with the Microsoft Sentinel security information and event management (SIEM) solution and Azure OpenAI Service. This integration enables organizations to use generative AI and natural language processing (NLP) technologies to recover from and remediate cyberattacks, Rubrik noted.

Rubrik helps organizations eliminate weaknesses in their security posture, the company stated. The company provides the Rubrik Security Cloud, which allows organizations to secure, monitor and recover their data.

It offers a partner program that enables MSSPs, MSPs and other technology providers to deliver Rubrik-as-a-service.
