Deepwatch Hooks Up with Google Cloud’s MSSP Initiative for MDR

Deepwatch is bringing its AI-powered managed detection and response (MDR) services to Google Cloud’s MSSP Initiative to expand its reach and integrate its capabilities with the hyperscaler’s cloud-native security tools.

The San Francisco-based MSSP’s Precision MDR and other security services are integrated with the Google Security Operations platform to bring AI-based automation, human analysis, and visibility across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments, a move that will make threat detection and response faster while reducing false positives, lower costs, and stronger security postures.

Google Cloud launched its MSSP Initiative in 2022 to partner with MSSPs and expand options for cybersecurity tools for enterprises by combining the expertise of the services providers with its security technologies, including the Google Security Operations platform. The initiative has more than three dozen MSSPs participating, including GuidePoint Security, Deloitte Consulting, IBM, Sysdig, and Netenrich.

All this comes amid the backdrop of a MDR space that is evolving from reactive practices that involve triaging alerts to one that is proactive and intelligence-driven, which is needed as the IT environment becomes increasingly distributed through remote work, cloud computing, and Internet of Things devices and cyberthreats become more numerous and complex, according to Deepwatch.

Then there are security operations centers (SOCs) that struggle to find talent.

Proactive, Not Reactive

“Simply detecting and routing alerts is no longer sufficient,” Deepwatch CISO Chad Cragle told MSSP Alert. “Today’s enterprises should expect their MDR partner to operate as an extension of their security team, with the ability to deliver contextual insight, anticipate threats, and respond with speed and precision. This shift demands deeper telemetry integration, smarter automation, and operational maturity.”

Manoj Srivastava, chief technology and product officer at MSSP Blackpoint Cyber, has written about the changing MDR market for the Forbes Technology Council, including the fragmenting security tools developed to address an expanding and increasingly complex attack surface that is making it challenging for MSSPs and MSPs to deliver critical information and security recommendations to customers.

Now they have to “evolve from delivering a collection of disparate detection and prevention capabilities to delivering a Unified Security Posture for their customers,” Srivastava wrote in February. “By treating managed security holistically, managed service providers can give customers the best of both reactive and preventative security within a unified program. Even better, proactive and reactive elements can continually inform one another, creating comprehensive cybersecurity that’s more than the sum of its parts.”

Outcomes, Knowledgeable Partners Wanted

Cragle echoed Srivastava's thoughts, saying that organizations don’t need more data. They want greater clarity, outcomes, and partners that understand their risk landscape and business context. That’s where Deepwatch and Google Cloud partnership, announced this week, comes in.

“By integrating with Google SecOps, we’re aligning Deepwatch’s precision MDR platform powered by humans and AI with the speed, scale, and intelligence required for modern security operations,” he said. “This partnership enhances our ability to detect, prioritize, and contain threats earlier in the attack chain, transforming MDR from reactive defense to proactive security enablement.”

Deepwatch has been adding to its security capabilities over the past several months. In February, the company bought Dassana, a security intelligence solutions company whose portfolio included AI-based risk and threat exposure management technology that Deepwatch integrated into its platform.

Five months earlier, Deepwatch unveiled five modules in its platform that are powered by CrowdStrike’s Falcon AI-powered platform.

Pairing Deepwatch’s dynamic risk scoring, automated response playbooks, and security experts with Google Cloud’s infrastructure means Deepwatch can “high-confidence detections” quickly and precisely, Cragle said.

MSSPs and MSPs Benefit

The partnership between Deepwatch and Google Cloud is part of the shift in delivering MDR services, he said.

“For MSSPs, it sets a higher bar,” Cragle said. “For MSPs, it creates a clear opportunity to expand into enterprise-grade security services without the overhead.

“As an established MSSP ... this integration accelerates our ability to deliver precision detection, automated response, and business-aligned outcomes at scale,” he said. “It’s a leap forward, both technologically and operationally, that others in the space will now have to match.”

It’s also an immediate opportunity for MSPs, which can partner with Deepwatch to offer MDR backed by experts without having to build their own SOCs or create threat content from scratch.

“Co-branded go-to-market support, seamless integration with Google SecOps, and a mature detection and response engine enable the delivery of value quickly while building customer trust,” he said. “This partnership is built to move the market forward, and for MSPs ready to differentiate and win, Deepwatch and Google Cloud provide the scale, speed, and credibility to lead the next generation of MDR.”
