Kaspersky warns small businesses face enterprise-level cyber threats

Kaspersky is releasing new recommendations and survey findings to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) strengthen their defenses against cyberattacks. According to TahawulTech, the research finds that attackers are increasingly deploying the same methods against SMBs as they do against large enterprises.

A global survey by Kaspersky's Internal Research Center revealed that just 14% of businesses with 100 to 499 employees avoided a cyber incident in the past year, with phishing, software vulnerability exploitation, and external remote access being the most frequent breaches. In the Middle East, Turkiye, and Africa (META) region, similar trends were observed, with phishing and software vulnerability exploits affecting 19% of SMBs. Key factors elevating cyberattack risk include a lack of IT security expertise (24% globally) and insufficient security awareness among non-IT employees (23% globally). To combat these threats, 70% of SMBs globally plan to enhance their IT security functions, with many increasing their cybersecurity budgets. Kaspersky recommends establishing internal processes, protecting people through training, and choosing appropriate technology defenses, offering solutions like Kaspersky Small Office Security Premium and Kaspersky Next Optimum for businesses of varying sizes and maturity.
