MSSP Market Update: Securiti, Databricks Team Up for AI AppSec

Hacking the security. The threat of information leakage and the security of the system. Red open padlock among closed black ones. Close the gap, fix the problem.

Zayo’s latest State of DDoS Attacks Report was released this week and revealed that recent advances in AI are making it easier and faster for even entry-level, unsophisticated cybercriminals to conduct a DDoS attack. So, that's scary.

Some highlights from the report: DDoS attack frequency grew by 82% in 2024 (from 90,000 attacks to nearly 165,000). And while the average attack duration was shorter in 2024 (97% of attacks lasted fewer than 30 minutes), this actually indicated that such attacks were conducted more intentionally.

And it's not just about inconvenience and downtime, according to the report. A DDoS attack costs $6,000 per minute, and with an average attack lasting 39 minutes, businesses lose nearly $234,000 per incident.

So, we have a reduced barrier to entry and a hefty price tag, but it gets worse. In the cybercriminal economic ecosystem, “DDoS-as-a-Service" providers are becoming increasingly prevalent -- Zayo predicts that the availability of DDoS-as-a-Service and other cybercrime tools is expected to increase, resulting in a greater number of attackers and a wider variety of attack methods. Stay safe out there!
