AI set to revolutionize SecOps, opening new pathways for analysts

Security operations are on the cusp of a significant transformation, with artificial intelligence and agentic capabilities expected to eliminate much of the repetitive work for security analysts over the next two years, according to Cyderes CEO Chris Schueler. This evolution, however, may also lead to an increase in threat actor activity that requires robust protection, based on information published by CRN.

Schueler, speaking to CRN, highlighted how Cyderes is integrating AI into its Security Operations Center (SOC) to accelerate evidence collection, correlate security telemetry, and automate other routine tasks. He emphasized that while AI will significantly reduce manual efforts and change the nature of SOC work, it will not replace human analysts. Instead, human expertise is still crucial for understanding intent, business trade-offs, and handling exceptions.

Schueler believes this shift will create a "renaissance" in security operations, offering unprecedented opportunities for SOC analysts to focus on higher-level decision-making and achieve quicker, more accurate verdicts. He dismissed the idea of AI completely replacing SOCs as "ridiculous marketing jargon," stressing that the technology enhances, rather than supplants, human capabilities in cybersecurity.
