WatchGuard has acquired Perimeters.io and launched WatchGuard Cloud Detection and Response, or CloudDR, as it pushes deeper into cloud application security for MSPs. The new service brings Perimeters’ technology into WatchGuard’s platform and is designed to give MSPs continuous visibility, detection and automated response across cloud applications from a multi-tenant environment.Cloud and SaaS security are becoming harder for MSPs to manage with traditional endpoint and network tools alone. Customers now rely on Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce, OpenAI, HubSpot, ConnectWise, Jira, and many other cloud applications. WatchGuard says CloudDR supports more than 40 applications at launch, giving partners a way to monitor cloud and identity risk across multiple customer environments without stitching together separate tools.CloudDR focuses on three areas that are becoming more important in managed security: identity threats, cloud misconfigurations and shadow AI or shadow IT risks. For MSPs, that could turn cloud application security into a more repeatable managed service, especially for small and midsize customers that may not have internal security teams watching cloud activity closely. The bigger question will be how easily partners can package, price and operate the service without creating more alert fatigue. This also fits into WatchGuard’s bigger MSP strategy. The company is trying to bring network, endpoint, identity and cloud application security into one platform. For partners, the value is simple: CloudDR could help them show customers what risks exist, reduce those risks across many client environments, and grow managed security revenue without adding more day-to-day work.
