The Google Cloud Security team continues to launch multiple partner programs to reach additional security ecosystems. Take a closer look, and Google is weaving together a security ecosystem that spans MSPs, MSSPs, software partners and more.

The latest move involves the the Google Cloud Security OEM Partner Program, which enables "independent software vendors and technology providers to leverage Google Cloud’s security technology to drive increased sales and better cybersecurity outcomes for their customers," the company said in a blog.

Google Chronicle & VirtusTotal for Partners

Read between the lines, and the search giant wants third-party software companies to embed Google Chronicle security operations and VirusTotal global threat intelligence capabilities into their products. Early partners include Cybereason and Tanium, Google indicated.

Side notes:

MSSPs and customers that leverage the embedded capabilities can scale up security operations with data lake and log management, while streamlining threat hunting, prioritization and incident response, the Google Cloud security team indicated.

This new partner program emerges less than one week after the company announced various Google Chrome OS and Browser security integrations.

Google Cloud Security and MSSPs

Meanwhile, Google in April 2022 announced a Chronicle MSSP Partner Program. Early partners include Cyderes (part of Herjavec Group and Fishtech Group), Netenrich and Novacoast, according to Google.according to Ganesh. The Chronicle MSSP Partner Program surfaced three months after Google Cloud acquired Siemplify in January 2022.

Google in March 2022 announced plans to acquire Mandiant for $5.4 billion — thought the U.S. Department of Justice is taking a look at the pending deal.

If Google focuses more on MSSPs, it will need to compete aggressively against Microsoft Sentinel — which has gained critical mass with MSSPs via the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA).

Also of note: Amazon Web Services (AWS) in August 2021 introduced the Level 1 MSSP Competency for AWS Partners as it tries to foster new partnerships with MSSPs and ISVs. AWS Partners can earn this competency to deliver AWS security and monitoring as a fully managed service.
