ADT Acquires MSSP SDI, Eyes Small Business Cybersecurity Market Growth

ADT, the monitored security and home and business automation solutions provider, has acquired Secure Designs Inc. (SDI) for an undisclosed sum. SDI is a well-known MSSP and SonicWall partner that manages firewall equipment for small business customers.

The acquired business will now will operate under the ADT Cybersecurity name and design, implement, monitor and manage small business network defense systems. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The overall ADT business, by the way, has emerged as a Top 20 provider of Managed Detection and Response (MDR) Services in the United States, MSSP Alert believes.

The SDI acquisition enables ADT Cybersecurity to provide custom security solutions to protect small businesses, their networks and their critical data against cyberattacks, according to a prepared statement. Also, SDI will deliver firewall services and intrusion prevention support to help small businesses keep pace with rapidly evolving cyber threats.

What Is SDI?

SDI is a North Carolina-based MSSP that controls the world's largest SonicWall Global Management System (GMS) deployment. It provides security solutions to small businesses and other organizations, and these solutions include Internet security and externally and internally managed security offerings.

Furthermore, SDI offers a private-label small- and micro business-focused managed security services program for Internet service providers (ISPs). This program is designed for ISPs with less than 100 end users, SDI said, and empowers these companies to launch a managed security services program in 90 days. It serves several national ISPs, with the largest deployment being 7,000 locations under SDI's management.

Formerly known as DATASHIELD, ADT Cybersecurity offers firewall customization, installation, monitoring and management services. ADT Cybersecurity also provides active perimeter defense, vulnerability scanning and secure remote access support to help organizations prevent data loss.

ADT Cybersecurity Portfolio: A Closer Look

The ADT Cybersecurity portfolio currently includes the following security solutions:

  • Managed Detection and Response (MDR) Services: Provide cyberattack investigation, validation and notification, along with visibility into an organization's security posture.
  • Automated Security Operations Center (ASOC): Works in conjunction with ADT Cybersecurity's MDR services to identify indicators of compromise (IOCs) and speed up threat detection and response.
  • SHIELDVISION: Offers a unified platform for organizing, managing and collecting cyber threat intelligence.
  • Security Appliance: Delivers full packet capture, endpoint detection and log analysis capabilities.

ADT Cybersecurity has taken steps to bolster its business-oriented services, too.

In addition to the SDI acquisition, ADT Cybersecurity in May integrated the Cofense Triage phishing-specific automated incident response platform into its MDR services. Cofense Triage is available via multiple deployment options and enables SOC team members and incident responders to automate phishing threat prioritization, analysis and response.
