Centroid Turns to Stellar Cyber’s SecOps Platform to Protect OCI Users

Centroid Systems, a longtime cloud services provider for organizations using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), is adding managed security services to its portfolio through a new partnership with Stellar Cyber.

The companies this week announced that Centroid is adopting Stellar Cyber’s Open XDR platform to deliver a range of services – including security information and event management (SIEM), network detection and response (NDR), a threat intelligence platform, intrusion detection system (IDS), security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR), user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA), and AI features – to the rapidly growing number of OCI customers.

It is also another step in helping to address the expanding cyberthreats facing cloud users, according to Jeff Hill, global senior director for service providers and MSSP at Stellar Cyber, based in San Jose, California.

“Cloud adoption is accelerating, but security often lags behind,” Hill told MSSP Alert. “Many organizations underestimate how complex it is to monitor identity, workloads, data, and applications across dynamic cloud environments. Threat actors know this, which is why misconfigurations, credential abuse, and API exploits remain leading causes of breaches.”

Relying on MSSPs

Such trends also illustrate why organizations increasingly are turning to MSSPs and MSPs to help protect their cloud environments, Hill said, adding that “managed security services give organizations the expertise, scale, and 24x7 coverage they simply can’t build in-house. By combining automation with skilled analysts, MSSPs close visibility gaps and provide consistent protection across multi-cloud and hybrid environments.”

Centroid, which is headquartered in Troy, Michigan, and founded in 1997, has a laundry list of OCI-focused managed cloud services that touch on everything from infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) to cloud monitoring, disaster recovery, and networking. It also has services for Microsoft cloud users, digital transformation, and technology consulting.

Oracle's Fast-Growing OCI

It’s becoming a busy time for Centroid and its peers. Oracle, which famously ignored the cloud during the initial years of the technology, has become a key player in the cloud computing space, behind the likes of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

In June, Oracle CEO Safra Catz said that in its fiscal year 2025, the company’s total growth rate – which includes infrastructure and applications – grew 24% year-over-year, and predicted that will jump to 40% in the current fiscal year.

The new partnership will combine Centroid’s deep OCI expertise and the SecOps features in Stellar Cyber’s platform, which includes using the telemetry Oracle is collecting to bolster Centroid’s cybersecurity capabilities, Hill said.

“For Centroid, this means they can offer enterprise-grade managed detection and response services without adding complexity, [including] faster deployment, earlier detections, and richer case investigations for their customers,” he said. “For Stellar Cyber, we gain a trusted partner with reach into Oracle’s fast-growing customer base, while proving the value of our platform in high-scale, mission-critical environments.”

Going the Platform Route

Stellar Cyber consolidates the broad array of security tools onto a single, highly integrated platform, an ongoing trend in the cybersecurity field away from collections of fragmented point products. Such platforms offer greater efficiency, lower costs, and less complexity, according to proponents.

The platform also includes AI and machine learning algorithms to identify anomalies and threats in real time, automated mechanisms for quick responses to threats, and a custom-built OCI connector for easy integration with the native security already in OCI.

Stellar Cyber uses its platform to ingest such telemetry from other cloud providers, including AWS, Azure, and GCP, that MSSPs can use to protect businesses in those environments, Hill noted, adding that while “this arrangement highlights the strength of Oracle Cloud ... it also positions Centroid and Stellar Cyber to serve multi-cloud organizations that demand unified protection without added complexity.”

A Booming Cloud Market

The cloud infrastructure space is expanding rapidly, with Synergy Research Group analysts noting that the global market reached almost $99 billion in the second quarter, a year-to-year jump of more than $20 billion, or almost 25%.

While Stellar Cyber offers MSSPs capabilities in all of the top cloud environments, the collaboration with Centroid is the first that includes Stellar Cyber’s platform being embedded so directly into the offerings of a managed cloud services provider.

“We’ve always believed that our open and unifying approach is a natural fit for MSSPs and MSPs, and this partnership demonstrates that vision in action,” Hill said. “It’s a template we expect to expand with other service providers who want to add differentiated security services on top of the clouds they manage.”
