StackHawk Secures $12M to Tackle API Security Challenges in AI-Driven Development

The API (application programming interface) provides the interface for communication between applications, simplifying application integration.

As AI speeds up how code gets built and shipped, security teams are struggling to keep up. StackHawk just raised $12 million in new funding from Sapphire and Costanoa Ventures to address that growing gap. The round brings StackHawk’s total funding to $47.3 million and will accelerate product delivery focused on scaling security for AI-assisted development—especially in data-sensitive sectors like healthcare and fintech.

The problem StackHawk is tackling is clear: developers are deploying code faster thanks to AI, but security teams—already outnumbered 100 to 1—can’t triage and resolve vulnerabilities fast enough. That’s led to mounting backlogs, slower fixes, and more exposure in production environments. StackHawk integrates API and application security testing directly into CI/CD workflows so developers can catch and fix issues earlier.

API traffic now accounts for 71% of internet traffic (Imperva, 2024), making API security core to application resilience. StackHawk’s platform is built to help engineering teams prioritize critical vulnerabilities before anything ships. The funding will help StackHawk move faster in supporting developer workflows and improving remediation speed at scale.

StackHawk plans to use the funding to accelerate its product roadmap and expand features tailored for teams adopting AI-assisted development, particularly in data-sensitive sectors like healthcare and fintech. The company’s platform is designed to help engineers identify and remediate critical API vulnerabilities early in the development lifecycle—before code reaches production.
