Qualys Brings Container Security to AWS Marketplace

Qualys, a cloud-based security and compliance solutions provider, has released the Qualys Container Security solution on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace for Containers. The news was announced at this week's AWS re:Invent cloud conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Key features of Qualys Container Security include:

  • Automatic and adaptive application behavior enforcement to secure running containers.
  • Analysis of activities within container-native applications.
  • Assessment of composition and vulnerabilities across container images.

Development and operations (DevOps) and security and operations (SecOps) teams can use Qualys Container Security to monitor and protect their container-native applications on AWS, according to the company. They also can assess the contents of their container images for security vulnerabilities and gain visibility into runtime application activity.

Qualys Container Security is now available on the AWS Marketplace for Containers.

Qualys Acquires Layered Insight

Qualys Container Security for the AWS Marketplace for Containers comes after Qualys last month acquired Layered Insight, a company that specializes in container-native application protection. Furthermore, Layered Insight co-founders Asif Awan and John Kinsella have joined Qualys; Awan serves as Qualys' CTO of container security, and Kinsella serves as the company's VP of engineering for container security.

With the acquisition, Qualys will integrate Layered Insight's technology into its Cloud Platform, the company stated. By doing so, Qualys customers will be able to use Layered Insight's technology for deep visibility and runtime application protection across containerized and serverless workloads.

Qualys anticipates the Layered Insight Solution to be integrated into its Cloud Platform by the second half of next year.

A Closer Look at Qualys and the Global App Container Technology Market

Qualys Container Security on the AWS Marketplace for Containers and the Layered Insight acquisition could help Qualys bolster its reach in the global app container technology market.

Global app container technology market revenues are projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.8 percent between 2016 and 2025, according to industry analyst Allied Market Research. In addition, these revenues could total $8.2 billion by 2025.

Qualys today offers cloud-based security and compliance solutions to over 10,300 customers worldwide. The company also generates about 40 percent of its revenues from channel partners and expects this figure to grow, CEO Philippe Courtot recently told analysts.
