ADT Hires Former Apple Exec As President of Innovation

ADT, a Top 100 MSSP and Top 20 MDR provider for 2018, has hired Bob Kupbens as its president of innovation and new business. Kupbens oversees ADT's business and product development, innovation and strategy, as well as the company's cyber, health and mobile security businesses.

Kupbens most recently led the seller marketplace for the Americas at eBay. He also has served as VP of online retail at Apple and held leadership roles at Delta and Target.

The Kupbens hire could help ADT accelerate its revenue growth following a profitable performance in the first quarter of 2019.

Some of ADT's 1Q19 financial results included:

  • Total revenue of $1.2 billion, up 11 percent year over year.
  • Recurring monthly revenue growth of 4 percent year over year.
  • Net loss of $66 million, compared to $157 million one year earlier.

The Kupbens hire also represents one of several recent additions to ADT's leadership team.

ADT last month named Elliot Cohen as its SVP of business development. Cohen is focused on helping ADT expand its business and strategic partnerships.

In addition, ADT in February appointed David Smail as its EVP and chief legal officer. Smail is expected to help ADT execute its business strategy.

A Closer Look at ADT and the Cybersecurity Services Market

ADT offers managed security services, along with consumer identity protection services and physical property protection. The company has made several recent moves to extend its cybersecurity services market reach, too.

ADT in September unveiled Digital Security and Identity Protection cybersecurity offerings. Digital Security is a cybersecurity services suite designed to protect end users' personal identities, digital data, networks and financial information against cyber threats. Comparatively, Identity Protection is a Digital Security e-commerce platform that safeguards users' personal information against identity theft.

Furthermore, ADT purchased managed Internet security services provider Secure Designs Inc. (SDI) in May. The company also acquired the Cofense Triage phishing-specific automated incident response platform last year.
