Fishtech Group (FTG), a cybersecurity company that specializes in cloud, IT and security transformation services, is set to acquire security analytics firm Haystax Technology for an undisclosed sum, the companies say.

FTG invested in Haystax and added the company's Constellation security operations center (SOC) platform to its portfolio in 2016.

With the Haystax acquisition, FTG plans to market its security offerings in the commercial enterprise space and expand its presence in the federal, state and local government sectors, according to the companies.

Haystax will retain its headquarters in McLean, Virginia, FTG indicated. Gary Fish, CEO and founder of Fishtech, will serve as CEO, and Pete Shah will be chief operations officer (COO).

What Is Constellation?

Constellation enables organizations to perform risk assessments to predict insider threats, identify anomalous activity and prioritize cyber threats, Haystax stated.

The SOC platform uses the Apache Storm stream processing engine to ingest, process and score incoming data streams, according to Haystax. It runs on Linux and enables an organization to transform human expertise into models that leverage data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to evaluate security problems.

Also, Constellation empowers organizations with applications for data visualization, threat alerting, asset cataloging, event monitoring and incident reporting, Haystax indicated. These apps provide authorized personnel with control over inviting and registering new users and deciding their roles, access levels and permissions.

FTG intends to explore ways to enhance Constellation's capabilities, Fish indicated. By doing so, FTG may be able to use Constellation to develop new cybersecurity applications.

Introducing FTG's SECaaS Solution

FTG in January unveiled Cyber Defense & Response (CYDERES), a security-as-a-service (SECaaS) solution that enables organizations to manage risk, detect threats and respond to security incidents in real-time. CYDERES helps organizations address systemic industry challenges, Fish said, and keep pace with evolving cyber threats.

In addition, FTG in January appointed Eric Foster, a certified information systems security professional (CISSP) and certified cloud security professional (CCSP), as its chief information security officer (CISO). Fisher leads FTG's CYDERES division and security, governance and compliance initiatives, the company stated.

FTG was founded by Fish, a cybersecurity industry veteran who has worked with firewall management software company FireMon and information security solutions provider FishNet Security. The company today offers managed security services to help organizations identify gaps in their security strategies, as well as various advisory, operations and technology services.
