As thousands of traditional MSPs and IT consulting firms push deeper into the managed security services market, plenty of folks are seeking ways to differentiate from their cross-town rivals.
Among the areas to potentially check out: Penetration testing, which will enjoy a frothy 13.9 percent compound annual growth rate from 2017 to 20217, according to Future Market Insights.
To ride that growth wave, MSPs, MSSPs and cybersecurity consulting firms will need to build out their so-called "pen testing" skills aggressively educate customers -- especially small business firms, where adoption of penetration testing solutions remains challenging, the research suggests.
Penetration Testing: Training at Black Hat USA
How can partners get started? Perhaps the answer will surface at Black Hat USA 2018, a conference set for August in Las Vegas. Coalfire, a cybersecurity advisor, will provide two days of penetration testing training courses during the event.
Day One will cover effective assessment management, network footprinting, network enumeration, vulnerability identification, gaining access through network exploitation, and password cracking, the company says. Day Two will cover network attacks, gaining situational internal awareness, escalation of access, internal lateral movement and impact demonstration, Coalfire adds.
Coalfire will also train attendees on Icebreaker and CrackMapExec (CME) V4.0, two tools developed by Coalfire Labs R&D team members. Icebreaker is designed to help security professionals automate network attacks against Active Directory from a position inside the network, but outside of Active Directory. Built with stealth in mind, CME helps automate the security assessment of large Active Directory networks, the company says.
