The
U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded a hardware, software and services contract worth an estimated $550.8 million to cybersecurity firms
International Systems Marketing,
DLT Solutions and
EC America.
Under the terms of the agreement, McAfee cybersecurity solutions will be provided for the DoD, U.S. intelligence community and
U.S. Coast Guard activities worldwide.
It's unclear if the win involves replacing any Kaspersky Lab security software. The federal government has stopped using Kaspersky's software amid fears that the company may have ties to Russia's government. Kaspersky has repeatedly denied the claim, and just today announced its own milestone -- reaching the 1,000 MSP partner mark worldwide.
Meanwhile, McAfee's core government services and solutions include:
- Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation: Enables government organizations to identify cybersecurity risks and prioritize these risks based on their potential impact.
- Cybersecurity-as-a-Service: Provides government organizations with a fully managed service offering that McAfee deploys and controls.
- Endpoint Protection: Empowers government organizations with anti-malware, antivirus and firewall capabilities based on McAfee's endpoint detection and response (EDR) and machine learning technology.
McAfee and Government Cybersecurity Spending
The government cybersecurity market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12 percent between 2017 and 2022, industry analyst
Market Research Media stated. Furthermore, Market Research Media has indicated the government cybersecurity sector could be worth approximately $22 billion by 2022.
For its part, McAfee has won multiple high-profile government deals in recent months.
McAfee in March was awarded a cybersecurity software services contract by the
U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The agreement requires McAfee to provide the TSA with endpoint defense and threat response capabilities to help the agency "detect and respond to security threats quickly," according to a
prepared statement.
InfoReliance, a managed virtual security operations center (vSOC) services provider, in September secured a five-year, $182 million contract to deliver McAfee managed cybersecurity services to the
U.S. Army. With the agreement, InfoReliance is helping the Army modernize its host-based security and analytics technologies across its global infrastructure and approximately 1.4 million endpoints, McAfee indicated.
McAfee has been striving to regain momentum after
Intel sold its majority interest in the company (but retained a minority stake) last year. The company began operating as a standalone company again in April 2017.
